Emergency Light Testing
D.I.WHY is accredited to BS 5266-1 the British Standard code of practice on emergency lighting that gives detailed guidance on the application and practice of emergency escape lighting, with a view to ensuring safety in the event that normal lighting is interrupted. The recommendations have been drawn up to encourage uniformity of application.
For those unfamiliare with emergency lighting, it is important to note that regular inspection and testing of emergency escape lighting is a legal requirement of building owners and employers under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order 2005) as well as a series of health and safety regulations applying to duty holders.
The fire code requires that the emergency lights including illuminated fire exit signs be inspected and tested at least once a month. The monthly test must include a minimum short duration test of thirty-seconds, with an annual test of the light fittings serviceability for a minimum of ninety minutes, and documented accordingly.
